Lady Emma Wells-Finch is determined to cause a scandal. Nothing big, you understand, just enough to convince her pompous British suitor that she's not an eligible candidate for marriage. She's thinking along the lines of, oh, maybe a discreet tattoo. But when suspended Texas golf pro Kenny Traveler meets her plane at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport, Emma decides that he's the perfect candidate to destroy her reputation.
Kenny, on the other hand--who desperately wants to be reinstated on the golf tour--is just as determined to keep a low profile and remain squeaky-clean. If Lady Emma weren't a close personal friend of the golf commissioner's wife, he'd never have agreed to squire her around town. Unfortunately for Kenny, his weakness for the British beauty is growing daily, and it seems as though Emma may have feelings for him as well. In a bizarre turn of events, wild man Kenny finds himself trying to keep the prim and proper British lady from causing a scandal the size of which even the lone-star state has never seen, and the results will leave you laughing with delight.
Below the hilarious dialogue that is Susan Elizabeth Phillips's trademark, Kenny, Emma, and the charming array of characters that populate this exceptional contemporary are warm and wonderfully human. Emma saves her Kenny and he saves her right back--never were two people more gloriously deserving of each other.--Lois Faye Dyer
Funny, delightful - without a doubt a favorite!! It is impossible to read this book and not find yourself grinning and laughing. Even in public places when I was trying to be inconspicuous - I found myself grinning like a fool and chuckling. People around me tried to see what I was reading! My children begged me to let them in on the humor. The only complaint you will have about author Susan Elizabeth Phillips is that she needs to publish more! She will not only have you thoroughly enjoying the main characters Emma and Kenny but she will entertain you with the antics and relationships of the "supporting cast" of Torie and Dexter. She brought back old favorites - Francesca and Dallie Beaudine. No one does a better job of offering greating subplots while keeping the main story at peak entertainment. Please, Susan, more books!!!
This is SEP's best book yet It's not very often that a book so highly anticipated not only meets, but surpasses expectations. The story of a woman who is willing to do almost anything to soil her reputation meeting up with a man who has to hold onto his reputation may not sound original, but boy, SEP delivers in Spades. Emma and Kenny are characters that are easy to love. Add to that a wickedly sexy secondary romance between Kenny's would-be trashy sister, Torie, and geek-from-heaven Dexter O'Conner, the reappearance of Dallie and Francesca (from Fancy Pants) and this story is truly a character driven delight. Get yourself to the bookstore quick, because Lady Be Good is not just sweet and lovely, but a most wonderful read!OK! I have to hand it to Susan Phillips she has some imagination. I liked this book because it was so off the wall strange but funny. If you would see Kenny and Emma eating at a restaurant you would be like "how different can two people be". However it really seems to work.
