Chilling I'm not a huge fan of Mary Higgins Clark only because she is too predictable. However, this book I read years ago and it has never left the back of my mind. It is eerie, and down right scary to think that you never really can know everything about a person until you live with them, and then you just may not want to. If you are a single woman looking to find the man of your dreams, read this book only to know what to beware of. I actually had a really hard time reading this only because it creeped me out so much. If you like a good thriller, than this one is for you. There is no guessing to who the bad guy is. You can only wonder if she gets away before it is too late.
A Mother's Worse Nightmare A CRY IN THE NIGHT is a story about a divorced mother of two, Jenny MacPartland, who meets a man she thinks is the answer to her dreams. This artist seems like he's everything a woman could ever want, and the strangest part to Jenny is that he's in love with her! It seems too good to be true, and with a mystery of this caliber, it definitely is! Her life becomes of whirlwind of events -- they marry within a month of meeting, move to a Minnesota farm (the quiet is something Jenny's not used to and she becomes lonely and scared especially at night). All of this begins to wear on her and she begins to fear that she's losing her mind. Slowly Jenny learns of her new husband's past, which is more terrifying than she could even imagine. These secrets can lead to the end of her marriage, but worse, it puts not only her life in danger, but also the lives of her two children.
A CRY IN THE NIGHT has a great plot and could be summed up as a mother's worse nightmare come true. This book showcases why Mary Higgins Clark is one of America's best mystery writers of all time. This suspenseful tale will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing about what will happen next makes this one of my favorites. Another interesting story by Clark I thought this was a good book. Although it started off slow, as you get toward the end it gets very exciting. It makes you just not want to put the book down. I thought that Clark did a good job in leaving the endings of the chapters with good suspense. I found myself keep wanting to read on to find out what happens next. I enjoyed the many things going on throughout the book, and not being able to know who is telling the truth. Where sometimes you would want to believe Jenny, but also Erich had some good arguments. From the events of adoption, to Kevin's death, just made you so thrilled to keep the book in your hands to know what happens. I thought that the last few chapters were probably the best. They were filled with a lot of action, many things occurring, and left you with lots of suspense. In my opinion this book is for mainly people over the age of 13. You have to be pretty mature to read it. It wouldn't really be a book for younger children, because they wouldn't understand some of the things occurring throughout the book. In conclusion, I thought it was a good book. It could have used more suspense and action early on in it to make it more interesting to begin with. Though in the end of the book Clark had very good suspense and a lot of action. I liked the good words that Clark used. They made the book fit together better. I would recommend this book to my friends and any other people I know, a long with many of Clark's other books. Although I don't think I would recommend it to younger kids. Overall it kept good suspense to make you keep reading. The book had a good use of words and was put together as well. So my final opinion on "A Cry in the Night", written by Mary Higgins Clark, would be very good suspense and interesting.
