Hot and Steamy!
SILKEN WEB has to be one of the most romantic, sexually graphic and tantalizing books that I've read by Sandra Brown. This is the story of Kathleen who marries Seth, a rich man who can give her everything, except what she needs in bed (figures, huh?). Then Erik comes into the picture - Erik, who has women tumbling in and out of his bed, but would never think about marriage. SILKEN WEB is based on the decision Kathleen has to make - which man will she ultimately chose?
I'm surprised that SILKEN WEB doesn't combust into flames on the shelf! This is definitely not for a pre-teen to read. SILKEN WEB could induce the reader to take several cold showers and be considered a heavy breather while reading! Sexually graphic scenes are meant to arouse the reader, and Sandra Brown shows the world that her books can be hot!
Absolutely dire drivel
Sandra Brown's later books are really good - Albi, Hello Darkness, Crush, etc, but her earlier ones are absolute trash. They are totally unbelievable - In this case a 25 year virgin called Kathleen, who avoids male attention meets Erik, who uses the most crass come-on lines I've ever heard, but goes for a drive and has sex outdoors him, a man she has known for maybe 2 days and who shows all the finesse of a rutting stag. All this while she is working as a counselor at an orphans' camp. The whole story is preposterous and you feel like either shaking or punching most of the characters. In an exact copy of Sandra Brown's "A treasure worth seeking" (...)Kathleen becomes pregnant, but hides the fact from the father because she mistakenly thinks he is married. Instead of asking him she runs away.
Kathleen is absolutely pathetic but falls into a great job and goes on to marry the boss - Seth who is a handsome, young, rich paraplegic and although he's deeply in love with her, and she has grown to love him, they share no more than a chaste kiss during their marriage. This is absolutely insulting to people with disabilities, as if the loss of the use of one's legs means not having any kind of romantic or sexual relationship. How out of touch with the real world is Sandra Brown? Of course the moment Seth brings Erik back into Kathleen's life, not knowing of their previous relationship, Kathleen is ruled by her passion for Seth, a man she knew for less than a week. How ridiculous! The book is basically soft porn wrapped up in old-fashioned stereotypes and I couldn't even finish it.
This should never have been republished. Don't waste your money or time on this.
WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO BE LOVED BY TWO MEN?
I READ THIS BOOK AWHILE BACK AND THE REASON I GIVE THIS BOOK ONLY 3 STARS IS BECAUSE I DONT REMEMBER MUCH OF IT. MOST OF THE BOOKS I READ ARE SO GOOD THAT I REMEMBER THE MAIN PARTS, LIKE WHY KATHLEEN LEFT ERIK. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CAN'T REMEMBER. I ALSO DID NOT LIKE THE FACT KATHLEEN WAS CHEATING ON SETH. ALL SETH DID WAS LOVE HER AND TREAT HER WITH RESPECT. ERIK IS OF COURSE A MAN THAT GETS WHAT HE WANTS, INCLUDING THE MARRIED WOMAN.
THE THING THAT I LIKE WAS THE ENDING. SETH WAS SO LOVING THAT HE HELPED KATHLEEN AND ERIK REUNITE THE LOVE THEY HAD FOR EACH OTHER.
